Biblical hermeneutics

Biblical Hermeneutics
A course designed to further the student’s hermeneutic knowledge, and to provide an opportunity to hone and practice exegetical skills. This class will utilize the application of recognized methodological principles of Biblical-theological hermeneutics in the interpretation of selected biblical texts.

Dr. Stephen T. Um
Dr. Um (PhD, the University of St. Andrews) has taught New Testament studies for over 30 years at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Covenant Theological Seminary, Emerson College, the University of St. Andrews, and many other theological training centers around the world. He is an adjunct professor of New Testament for Gateway Seminary and teaches at the Boston site through the Boston School of Ministry (BSM). He has a passion for helping students to see the person of Jesus Christ as the final resolution, fulfillment, and completion of all that has been promised in the Old Testament. He presently trains, coaches and mentors church planters and pastors through a church planting network (SEND Boston/For Greater Boston) while serving as an executive director at Christ Church Charlestown and Theologian in Residence at Restoration Road Church in Wakefield. He is the author of many books including a commentary on 1 Corinthians and several books on theology and pastoral ministry. He lives in Boston with his wife Kathleen, and they have 3 daughters, two sons in law and one grandson.

New Testament I: Snapshots of the Life of Christ
This course provides a chronological and synthetic study of the four Gospels, focusing on the time, place, circumstances, and people involved in Jesus' earthly ministry. Students will explore the historical and cultural context of Jesus' life, the key events of his ministry, and the major themes of his teachings. The course emphasizes the progressive development of Jesus' ministry and its implications for contemporary Christian life.

Prof. Jared Kirk
Jared Kirk is the Lead Pastor of Renewal Church. He has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami (FL), and a M.A. in Religion from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has been involved in full-time ministry since 2005 as a Lead Pastor, Campus Teaching Pastor, Adult Groups Pastor, and Student Pastor. Jared is passionate about teaching people to live out and experience the good news of Jesus in every area of their life.
He and his wife Heather were married in 2005, and they have four kids: Jude, Hattie, Amelia, and Paizow. They moved to Boston in early 2013 to plant a church for the glory of God and the good of the city. They chose Boston because cities are strategic centers of cultural formation, and Boston in particular is the most influential city, for its size, in the world.

Dr. Brian C. Causey
Chris became a Christian in 2001 while studying biochemistry in college. He has been in ministry for over 20 years. Chris’s most significant accomplishment was getting his lovely, smart, and charming wife, Ginny, to say yes to marrying him over 18 years ago. They have two adorable children.
